Areas, a world leader in travel food and beverage, took home the “Rookie of the Year” award for its Healthy Concepts proposal at the first Enjoy Aena international travel retail awards held at Madrid’s Teatro Real last night. With these awards, Aena wishes to recognize excellence across travel food & beverage and retail brands operating out of its airports which help improve the passenger travel experience.

Aena rewarded Areas for its idea centered around a healthy, fresh, and quality offering for passengers at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, voting the company “Rookie of the Year”.

Areas Iberia chief executive Sergio Rodríguez collected the award. “We are very grateful for the recognition given to us yesterday at the Enjoy Aena Awards. The winning proposal includes concepts such as Areas’ own brand Deli&Cia, plus La Place, Flax & Kale, Aloha Poké, and Chia, and represents a groundbreaking effort to improve the traveler experience. Introducing these brands into airports was a response to growing passenger demand for healthy, high-quality choices.

Deli&Cia, created in 2013, is a young concept distinguished by its fresh and natural, fast and practical food offering, with a streamlined focus pivoted to the travel channel. The brand has gained international renown for its flexibility and growth, and currently operates out of 28 outlets across Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, the US, Mexico, and Chile.

La Place enjoys a strong international presence for delivering a healthy, natural culinary experience and is known for its cool and trendy approach, bringing a modern and esthetic added value to the airport environment.

Flax & Kale, pioneers in flexitarian and plant-based cuisine, delivers healthy, sustainable choices and freshly made ready meals with seasonal produce. It attracts a health- and environmentally conscious public and enhances traveler satisfaction.
