Areas, a global leader in food & beverage and travel retail, announces organizational changes within its leadership structure as part of a new phase of growth and international consolidation. The company has appointed Patricio Ramos as Group Chief Strategy and Development Officer and Mathieu Herrero as CEO of Areas France, one of its key strategic markets in Europe.
This new chapter for the company follows major recent milestones, including the award of Aena’s largest-ever food and beverage tenders at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airports in Spain, as well as the acquisition of Travel Hospitality Services (THS) in the United States, which significantly strengthens Areas’ presence in one of its core markets.
Patricio Ramos, the new Chief Strategy and Development Officer of Areas
Areas welcomes Patricio Ramos, who brings extensive international experience in business transformation and development across the travel, distribution, and leisure sectors. Over more than twenty years at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he served as Managing Director & Partner, leading the Consumer and Travel practice in Spain and Portugal, as well as the European Travel practice.
He later joined Parques Reunidos, an EQT portfolio company, as Chief Transformation Officer, where he led the group’s Food & Beverage and Retail businesses, in addition to several global transformation programs.
Since 2021, he has been serving as an independent board member of TAP Air Portugal, participating in various company committees and contributing his expertise in the aviation sector and corporate governance.
In his new role as Group Chief Strategy and Development Officer at Areas, Patricio Ramos will lead the definition and execution of the company’s corporate strategy and global transformation projects at a decisive stage in its evolution.
His appointment strengthens Areas’ ability to successfully navigate a new phase marked by expansion across major mobility hubs and the evolution of its business model in an increasingly dynamic and competitive environment.
Mathieu Herrero appointed CEO of Areas France
Areas has named Mathieu Herrero as CEO of Areas France, effective March 1st, 2026.
With nearly twenty years of experience within the company, Mathieu Herrero has held key leadership roles across different markets and at the corporate level. He began his career leading the Concepts & Standards area in Spain and Portugal, and later in France. In recent years, he has been a member of the corporate executive committee, overseeing commercial development, marketing, procurement and construction across all countries in which Areas operates.
His in-depth knowledge of the business, the teams and the company’s culture represents a strategic asset to continue driving growth in the French market, a key country for the Group’s development. In recent years, Areas France has strengthened its competitive positioning by securing major contracts in airports, railway stations, motorways and leisure parks, as well as through strategic transactions such as the acquisition of Sighor, which significantly reinforced its presence in the motorway service area segment.
Under his leadership, Areas France will continue its growth and innovation trajectory, with the objective of creating value for partners, customers and teams.
