The Spanish Association Marcas de Restauración recently hosted the fourth edition of the Restauració Summit at the MGS Auditorium in Barcelona, co-organized with Horeca Professional Expo (HIP). The summit highlighted the significant growth of the branded restaurant sector in the city.

Edurne Uranga, Head of Foodservice Europe at Circana Foodservice, presented data indicating that the branded restaurant industry in Spain generated €41.1 billion up to August 2023, marking a 16% increase compared to 2022. Of this revenue, 19% was attributed to Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. Notably, Barcelona’s branded restaurant sector achieved a market share of 31.3% of the total commercial restaurant expenditure, surpassing the national average by two percentage points.

Several debates took place during the day, including the one moderated by Mario Cañizal, co-founder of the Fundación Restaurantes Sostenibles, entitled “Committed to sustainability, much more than just data”, which included the participation of Blanca López, ESG Director of Areas.

Finally, Mathieu Herrero, Concepts and Standards Director of Areas and member of the Board of Directors of MdR, closed the day by highlighting the efforts made by the entire branded foodservice industry and the importance of Marcas de Restauración’ values and our transformation.
