Areas, the leading multinational company in food & beverage and travel retail headquartered in Barcelona, is taking over the food & beverage management at Center Parcs’ new park, Nordborg Resort on the Danish island of Als. The resort, which will officially open on June 20th, 2025, is the first Center Parcs resort in Scandinavia and one of Denmark’s most significant tourism projects in recent years.
Areas has been a strategic partner of Center Parcs in Germany and France since 2010. The company operates 115 catering units in 13 leisure parks there and serves over 8.7 million guests annually. With the new location in Denmark, Areas is consistently pursuing its successful growth strategy of tapping into new markets and expanding its presence in the European tourism region.
A new vacation experience for northern Europe
With the Nordborg Resort, a long-standing major project is becoming a reality: the idea was born in 2012, the ground-breaking ceremony took place in May 2022 and now it is clear: the resort will welcome its first guests from June 20th, 2025 – just in time for the summer vacations. Accommodation has been available to book since October 2024. There are 440 cottages for two to eight people on the 190-hectare site, 90 of which have a direct view of the sea. A particular highlight is the 140-metre-long pier – the longest of its kind in Denmark.
The choice of location is anything but a coincidence. Lots of nature, the spectacular location on the coast and easy accessibility make the resort particularly attractive for guests from Germany and Scandinavia. The resort expects 450,000 overnight stays per year and an additional 25,000 day visitors.
“The opening of Nordborg Resort is the culmination of a long and successful development process that has resulted in a unique vacation paradise right here in Nordborg. We can now offer both Danish and international guests a unique vacation experience surrounded by nature and with a strong connection to the local area,” says Bent Jensen from Linak Holding A/S.
In focus: diversity, sustainability and regionality
Areas provides enjoyment between forests, meadows, sea and lake: the concept developed especially for the Nordborg Resort combines international brands and local specialties under the roof of the central Market Dome – from the Market Café with pizza, pasta, meat dishes and Danish specialties to the Irish burger chain Rocket’s and the Market Restaurant with high-quality, sustainable products. With this diverse culinary offering, Areas caters to the most varied preferences of guests from Germany, Scandinavia and all over the world. But Areas’ commitment to the physical well-being of its guests does not end there: A modern SPAR supermarket and, for those who want the ultimate in convenience, a delivery service are available for catering in the cottages. For bread rolls, pastries etc., Areas has partnered with Lagkagehuset, a wellknown Danish bakery and confectionery chain.
The new resort sets a strong example for environmentally conscious tourism: during construction, great importance was attached to conserving natural resources and reducing the impact on the environment to a minimum. The goal was nothing less than gold certification from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB) – a Europe-wide award that recognizes particularly environmentally friendly, energy-efficient and sustainable construction projects. This makes Nordborg Resort one of the first vacation resorts to receive this coveted award.
Areas plans further growth
With the Nordborg Resort, Center Parcs is opening up a new destination region and responding to the growing demand for nature-oriented vacation destinations in northern Europe – a path that Areas is helping to shape in culinary terms as an exclusive food & beverage partner.
Further international projects are already being planned, including in France, Madrid and the USA.
