Carlos Bernal, CEO of Areas USA, spoke with The Moodie Davitt Report about the company’s strategic advancements in the United States, highlighting the acquisition of significant contracts in both the airport and highway sectors.

Areas has secured a ten-year contract to operate ten new food and beverage locations at Houston William P. Hobby Airport, with an estimated revenue of $470 million. The company plans to invest approximately $19 million to revamp dining options in the airport’s east and west areas. The new venues will feature a mix of national and regional brands, alongside local favorites such as Throughgood Coffee Bistro & Bar, Starbucks, Yard House, SpindleTap Brewery, Killen’s Barbecue, and The Spot.

In addition to its airport expansions, Areas has won a 15-year contract to operate the Beckley, Bluestone, and Morton travel plazas on the West Virginia Turnpike. This agreement, valued at $272 million, includes an initial $15 million investment to renovate existing spaces. The travel plazas will feature modern designs and house six restaurants, including prominent U.S. food and beverage brands such as Starbucks, Wendy’s, Popeye’s, and Firehouse Subs. Each location will also include a convenience store under the Mountain State Market brand, a concept developed by Areas’ design team.
