Barcelona, February 3rd, 2026.

Areas, a global leader in food & beverage and travel retail, headquartered in Barcelona, has been awarded the management of 22 new establishments at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, the second-busiest airport in Spain and the fifth in Europe, following the tender process launched by Aena to renew the airport’s food and beverage offering. This food and beverage tender is the largest in the airport’s history, comprising a total of 48 food and beverage outlets.

Areas expects that the management of these 22 new establishments, over more than 8,400 m2 in both terminals, will generate a total of €1.5 billion in revenues over the concession period, estimated at 8 to 12 years.

Three years after Areas was awarded 35 establishments in the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, the company once again affirms its leadership by significantly increasing its presence at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, going from today’s 33% to 45%.

The new and ambitious food and beverage offering that Areas will roll out in the airport will have a wide-ranging and innovative mix of concepts. It will include Areas’ proprietary brands, including highlights like Deli&Cia, a healthy grab&go proposition designed to respond to the needs of the modern traveler, and StrEAT, a street food-inspired gastroexperience.

The offering will be rounded out by the city’s own famous brands, which will give the airport a clear differential local identity, like Boldú, a craft pastry and coffee shop, Chalito, famed for their breaded cutlets, Morro Fi, classic Barcelona bar serving up tapas and vermouth, Bar Bocata, renowned for their Spanish tortillas, and Demasié, the popular bakery specializing in cinnamon rolls and cookies.

The project will also include Spanish brands representing the best in Spanish food, like Santagloria, combining tradition and modernity, and Barra Lateral, a brewpub offering well-loved tapas options, among others.

The offering will be strengthened by internationally famous brands that include Burger King, the iconic burger joint, PAUL, the French coffee and bakery line, Popeyes, specialized in New Orleans-style fried chicken, Subway, based on as-you-like-them sandwiches, La Place, known for its cool and trendy concept, Lavazza, the renowned Italian coffee brand, and Budweiser, a benchmark brewery at a global level.

Óscar Vela, Areas CEO, said that “with this award we’re strengthening our position as a industry-leading operator in travel food and beverage and our ability to win strategic tenders, securing our position in the countries where we have a footprint. We are especially proud of consolidating our presence and leadership in Barcelona, a city that has had a close relationship to the company from its early days and where we currently have our world HQ, as well as in the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, one of Europe’s major airport hubs.”

Sergio Rodríguez, the CEO of Areas Iberia, explained that “this result highlights our commitment to continue enhancing the traveler experience through offerings that combine quality, innovation, and a perfectly balanced mix of concepts tailored to travelers’ needs, as well as our willingness to help turn the airports where we operate into a showcase for the very best of the local gastronomy.”

The culinary offering will be renovated in phases, starting in May of this year and concluding midway through next year. Business closings for renovation and work has been planned in stages so that impact on traveler service is minimal.

Areas will also continue managing Sibarium, Areas’ own delicatessen product brand, located in Terminal 1 of the Barcelona-El Prat Airport.
