The July/August edition of The Moodie Davitt Report highlights a defining moment for Areas USA following the acquisition and integration of Delaware North’s Travel Hospitality Services (THS). The transaction has transformed our position in the US market, making Areas USA the nation’s largest privately held travel hospitality operator and the largest division within the Areas Group.
Today, Areas USA operates a portfolio of more than 400 restaurants and retail stores across 27 airports and 12 travel plazas, serving over 35 million guests every year with a team of approximately 6,000 employees. Following the successful completion of the THS operating systems transition in July, this increased scale is already translating into new opportunities and developments across the country, including hyper-local concepts at San Diego International Airport’s new Terminal 1 and the first-ever Yard House airport location at Houston William P. Hobby Airport.
This new scale also strengthens Areas USA’s ability to shape the next generation of travel hospitality in the country. The team is actively pursuing new airport opportunities across the US while continuing to develop a differentiated portfolio that combines our proprietary brands with local and regional concepts. The goal is clear: to create experiences that reflect the identity of each destination, respond to evolving traveller expectations and reinforce Areas USA’s position as a leading player in an increasingly competitive market.
The integration of THS therefore opens a new chapter not only for Areas USA, but for Areas as a whole. With the US business having tripled in size, the market has become one of the Group’s most important growth engines and a cornerstone of our long-term strategy. From this stronger position, we will continue expanding our footprint, strengthening relationships with airport partners and bringing innovative, relevant and locally rooted concepts to travellers across the country.
This milestone is another important step in our long-term growth journey and reinforces our ambition to continue shaping the future of the F&B travel industry in one of the world’s most dynamic travel markets.
