{"id":8626,"date":"2026-02-04T16:03:15","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T15:03:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/areas.com\/?p=8626"},"modified":"2026-02-04T16:03:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T15:03:15","slug":"areas-consolidates-its-position-as-the-leading-food-and-beverage-operator-at-barcelona-el-prat-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/areas.com\/en\/press\/airports\/areas-consolidates-its-position-as-the-leading-food-and-beverage-operator-at-barcelona-el-prat-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"Areas consolidates its position as the leading food and beverage operator at Barcelona &#8211; El Prat Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Areas, a global leader in food &amp; beverage and travel retail has been awarded 22 new restaurants.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Areas strengthens its position in Spain\u2019s second most important airport, where its presence will increase from the current 33% to 45%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The company expects these new spaces to generate total revenues of approximately \u20ac1.5 billion over the concession period.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The commercial offering will incorporate a wide range of concepts combining proprietary brands, local brands, and well-known national and international brands, resulting in a fully innovative offering.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Barcelona, February 3<sup>rd<\/sup>, 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Areas, a global leader in food &amp; beverage and travel retail, headquartered in Barcelona, has been awarded the management of <strong>22 new establishments<\/strong> at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, the second-busiest airport in Spain and the fifth in Europe, following the tender process launched by Aena to renew the airport\u2019s food and beverage offering.This food and beverage tender is <strong>the largest in the airport\u2019s history<\/strong>, comprising a total of 48 food and beverage outlets.<\/p>\n<p>Areas expects that the management of these 22 new establishments, over more than 8,400 m<sup>2<\/sup> in both terminals, will generate a <strong>total of <\/strong><strong>\u20ac1.5 billion in revenues<\/strong> over the concession period, estimated at 8 to 12 years.<\/p>\n<p>Three years after Areas was awarded 35 establishments in the Adolfo Su\u00e1rez Madrid-Barajas Airport, the company once again affirms its leadership by significantly increasing its presence at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, going from today&#8217;s 33% to <strong>45%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The new and ambitious food and beverage offering that Areas will roll out in the airport will have a wide-ranging and innovative mix of concepts. It will include Areas\u2019 proprietary brands, including highlights like <strong>Deli&amp;Cia<\/strong>, a healthy grab&amp;go proposition designed to respond to the needs of the modern traveler, and <strong>StrEAT<\/strong>, a street food-inspired gastroexperience.<\/p>\n<p>The offering will be rounded out by the city\u2019s own famous brands, which will give the airport a clear differential local identity, like <strong>Bold\u00fa<\/strong>, a craft pastry and coffee shop, <strong>Chalito<\/strong>, famed for their breaded cutlets, <strong>Morro Fi<\/strong>, classic Barcelona bar serving up tapas and vermouth, <strong>Bar Bocata<\/strong>, renowned for their Spanish tortillas, and <strong>Demasi\u00e9<\/strong>, the popular bakery specializing in cinnamon rolls and cookies.<\/p>\n<p>The project will also include Spanish brands representing the best in Spanish food, like <strong>Santagloria<\/strong>, combining tradition and modernity, and <strong>Barra Lateral<\/strong>, a brewpub offering well-loved tapas options, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The offering will be strengthened by internationally famous brands that include <strong>Burger King<\/strong>, the iconic burger joint, <strong>PAUL<\/strong>, the French coffee and bakery line, <strong>Popeyes<\/strong>, specialized in New Orleans-style fried chicken, <strong>Subway<\/strong>, based on as-you-like-them sandwiches, <strong>La Place<\/strong>, known for its cool and trendy concept, <strong>Lavazza<\/strong>, the renowned Italian coffee brand, and <strong>Budweiser<\/strong>, a benchmark brewery at a global level.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00d3scar Vela<\/strong>, <strong>Areas CEO<\/strong>, said that \u201cwith this award we\u2019re strengthening our position as a industry-leading operator in travel food and beverage and our ability to win strategic tenders, securing our position in the countries where we have a footprint.
